தீபாவளித் திருநாள் கொண்டுவரும் சமாதானம் மற்றும் நல்லெண்ண ஒளி எமது மக்களின் வாழ்வில் அறியாமை இருளகற்றி மகிழ்ச்சிக்கும் சந்தோஷத்திற்கும் வழிவகுக்க வேண்டும் என பிரார்த்திக்கிறேன் என்று ஜனாதிபதி மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஷ விடுத்துள்ள வாழ்த்துச் செய்தியில் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

அதில் அவர் மேலும் தெரிவித்துள்ளதாவது,

தீபத்திருநாளாம் தீபாவளித் திருநாளை முன்னிட்டு இலங்கை வாழ் அனைத்து இந்து மக்களுக்கும் இந்த வாழ்த்துச் செய்தியை அனுப்புவதில் பெருமகிழ்ச்சி அடைகிறேன். தீபாவளிப் பண்டிகை தீயவற்றை நீக்கி நன்மையையும் அறியாமையை நீக்கி அறிவுடமையையும் இருளை நீக்கி ஒளியையும் வெற்றி கொள்வதை குறித்து நிற்கின்றது.

உலகெங்கிலுமுள்ள இந்துக்களால் கொண்டாடப்படும் தீபாவளிப் பண்டிகை இந்து சமயத்தின் உயர்ந்த ஆன்மீகப் பெறுமானங்களுக்கேற்ப ஒரு சிறந்த வாழ்க்கைக்காக மனிதர்கள் மேற்கொண்ட ஒரு உறுதியான போராட்டத்தின் முன்னேற்றத்தை அடையாளப்படுத்தி நிற்கின்றது என்ற வகையில் மக்களின் ஆன்மீக சுபீட்சத்திற்கான ஒரு கொண்டாட்டமே தீபாவளிப் பண்டிகையாகும்.

நாட்டில் சமாதானம் மீளக் கட்டியெழுப்பப்பட்டிருக்கும் இச்சூழ்நிலையில் இந்து மக்கள் இத்திருநாளை சுதந்திரமாகவும் இனம், மதம் மற்றும் ஏனைய எல்லா வேறுபாடுகளையும் மறந்து சமூகங்கள் மத்தியில் அன்பையும் பரஸ்பர புரிந்துணர்வையும் வளர்க்கும் ஐக்கிய உணர்வுடனும் கொண்டாடுவதற்கான சூழல் தற்போது நாட்டில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

எமது மக்கள் பயங்கரவாதத்தின் காரணமாக எதிர்நோக்கி வந்த எல்லா கஷ்டங்களும் மறைந்து அபிவிருத்திக்கும் சுபீட்சத்திற்குமான புதியதோர் யுகத்தின் ஆரம்பத்தில் எமது நாடு தற்போது இருக்கின்றது. இந்து மக்கள் தற்போது உலகெங்கிலுமுள்ள தங்களது சகோதர இந்து மக்களுடன் சேர்ந்து இத்தீபாவளித் திருநாளை மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கொண்டாடுவதற்கும் அந்த மகிழ்ச்சியுணர்வை ஏனைய சமூகங்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டு நாட்டில் அமைதியாகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியாகவும் வாழ்வதற்கேற்ற சூழல் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

இத் தீபாவளித் திருநாள் கொண்டு வரும் சமாதான மற்றும் நல்லெண்ண ஒளி எமது மக்கள் வாழ்வில் அறியாமை இருளகற்றி மகிழ்ச்சிக்கும் சந்தோஷத்திற்கும் வழிவகுக்க வேண்டுமென நான் பிரார்த்திக்கின்றேன். இலங்கை வாழ் இந்துக்களுக்கு எனது மகிழ்ச்சியான தீபாவளி வாழ்த்துக்கள்.

மீண்டும் எங்களை முட்டாள்கள் ஆக்க வேண்டாம் என அவர் சிங்களத்தின் தூதுவருக்கு (மருத்துவ உபகரணங்கள் கேட்டு) அனுப்பிய பதிலில் எழுதியுள்ளார். மகிந்தரின் ஆட்சியை குறைகூறிய அவர் தமது அமைப்பு சுனாமி நாட்களில் இருந்து 750,000 டாலர்களை இதுவரை வழங்கியதையும் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

I am in awe at your gall and brazen request for assistance on this matter from the expat Sri Lankan community in Australia. You represent a nation led by a President and his family who have plundered the nation of its wealth and foreign aid provided in good faith for the betterment of the people in Sri Lanka. A nation which gives lip service to purporting the democratic rights of the people and free speech. Now you come with cap in hand drawing on the emotional links of the expat community and their generosity to prop your corrupt regime. As they say in Australia, you got Buckley's chance and should be exposed for what you represent. DO NOT TREAT US AS FOOLS.

There are many Sri Lankan groups based in Australia that have responded to Lanka's hour of need from its people through various wonderful projects and its an ongoing exercise. I am the President of one such body that has disbursed almost $750,000 since the Tsunami and are still doing so. All funds spent and accounted for through transparent and accountable means with outcomes delivered and no "creaming off" by officials with very deep pockets. Why should one be involved with a tainted, corrupt government?

About time the autocratic current regime put their hand in their pockets and returned some of the wealth parked overseas to look after the interests of their citizens whose national wealth they plundered by stealth.
