பிரபாகரன்-கருணா பிரச்சினை நீர்க்குமிழி போல மறையும்: வைகோ பேட்டி

ராமநாதபுரம், மார்ச் 31: இலங்கையில் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தலைவர் பிரபாகரனுக்கும், கருணாவுக்கும் இடையே ஏற்பட்டுள்ள பிரச்சினை விரைவில் நீர்க்குமிழி போல மறைந்து விடும் என ம.தி.மு.க. பொதுச்செயலாளர் வைகோ தெரிவித்தார்.

ராமநாதபுரத்தில் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை அவர் அளித்த பேட்டி:

இந்தியக் கடல் எல்லைக்குள் புகுந்து தமிழக மீனவர்கள் மீது இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர் தாக்குவது என்பது கண்டிக்கத்தக்கது. இந்த விஷயத்தில் மத்திய அரசு நமது கடற்படையின் மூலம் இலங்கைக் கடற்படைக்கு எச்சரிக்கை விட வேண்டும்.

குறைந்தபட்சம் ராஜீய உறவுகளைத் துண்டிக்கப் போவதாக எச்சரிக்க வேண்டும்.

தமிழக மீனவர்கள் இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினரால் தாக்கப்படுவது என்பது இந்திய நாட்டின் இறையாண்மைக்கு விடப்பட்ட சவால். இந்த விஷயத்தில் இலங்கை அரசுக்குத் திட்டவட்டமான எச்சரிக்கையை விடுப்பதன் மூலம் பிரச்சினைக்கு நிரந்தரத் தீர்வு காண முடியும்.

போதைப் பொருள் கடத்தல் என்பது தடுக்கப்பட வேண்டிய குற்றம். அதேநேரத்தில் திருப்புல்லாணி ஒன்றிய ம.தி.மு.க. செயலாளர் மீது பொய் வழக்குப் போட்டு, போதைப் பொருள் தடுப்புக் காவல் சட்டத்தின் கீழ் கைது செய்திருப்பது கண்டிக்கத் தக்கது என்றார் வைகோ.

மட்டக்களப்பு தமிழர்களே 24 மணி நேரத்தில் வெளியேறுங்கள், கருணா கெடுபிடி

கொழும்பு, மார்ச் 31- மட்டக்களப்பு பகுதியில் பிரபாகரனுக்கு ஆதரவான பொதுமக்கள் 24 மணி நேரத்தில் வெளியேற வேண்டும் என்று கருணா குழு கெடுபிடி செய்கிறது.

இலங்கையில் தமிழர்கள் வாழும் கிழக்கு பகுதியான மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்தில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தில் இருந்து நீக்கப்பட்ட முன்னாள் தளபதி கருணாவும் அவரது ஆதரவாளர்களும் புதிய மிரட்டலை விடுத்துள்ளனர்.

இன்று காலை துண்டு பிரசுரங்களை அந்தப் பகுதியில் அவர்கள் விநியோகித்தார்கள். அதில் புலிகளை ஆதாpக்கும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பொதுமக்களும், வியாபாhpகளும் இன்னும் 29 மணி நேரத்தில் அங்கிருந்து வெளியேறி விட வேண்டும். மீறி தங்குவோருக்கும் அவர்களின் இளம் தலைமுறையினரும் பூண் டோடு அளிக்கப்படுவார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்களது அசையும் மற்றும் அசையாத சொத்துக்களை அப்படியே விட்டுவிட்டுச் செல்ல வேண்டும். ஒவ்வொருவரும் தங்கள் வசம் வெறும் 500 ரூபாய் வரை மட்டும் எடுத்துச் செல்லலாம். இவ்வாறு துண்டு பிரசுரத் தில் கூறப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

வரும் இலங்கை பாராளுமன்றத் தேர்தலில் கருணாவின் ஆதரவாளர் வேட்பாளராக நிறுத்தப்பட்டார். அவர் புலிப்படையினரால் கொல்லப்பட்டார் என்றும் ஏற்கனவே செய்தி வெளியானது. இந்த நிலையில் கருணாவை ஒழித்துக் கட்டுவோம் என்று ஏற்கனவே புலிகள் தொpவித்தனர். இந்த அறிவிப்பு வந்த கையோடு புலிக் கொலைப் படையினர் கிழக்குப் பகுதியில் ஊடு ருவி உள்ளதாக செய்தி பரவியது.

இப்போது புலி ஆதரவு பொதுமக்கள் ஆயிரக்கணக்கானோர் வெளியேற வேண்டும் என்று கருணா உத்தரவு போட்டு உள்ளார். அத்தோடு தேர்தல் பகுதியில் உள்ள பெரும்பாலான கடைகளைப் பூட்டி சாவிகளையும் கருணா ஆதரவாளர்கள் பறித்து சென்று விட்டனர்.

இதற்கிடையில் இலங்கையில் நடக்க உள்ள பாராளுமன்ற தேர்தலில் எந்தக் கட்சிக்கும் மெஜhhpட்டி கிடைக்காது என்றும், தொங்கு பாராளுமன்றம் தான் அமையும் என்று தேர்தல் கருத்துக் கணிப்பு கூறுகிறது. இதனால் 26 ஆண்டுகளாக நீடித்து வரும் இலங்கை இனப்பிரச்சினை மேலும் நீடிக்கவே அதிகவாய்ப்பு உள்ளதாக அஞ்சப்படுகிறது.

Religious dignitaries appeal for calm in Batticaloa

Religious dignitaries of all faiths in the Batticaloa district Wednesday made an urgent appeal to parties concerned to take immediate steps to promote peaceful environment instead of taking revenge, civil sources said.

Five religious dignitaries in a statement released have expressed fear and sadness over the recent developments that had taken place in the Batticaloa district, sources said

Rt Rev. Dr.Kingsely Swampillai, Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa Diocese, Hindu Priest Karunahara Maheswara Kurukkal, Rev.A.R.Mahendran, Superintendent Minister of Methodist Church in Koddamunai, Batticaloa, Moulavi A.J.M.Ilyas and Vicar Rev.S.Noah Doraisamy of Batticaloa St.Andrews Church have signed the statement.

The statement said," Human life is precious. It is an invaluable gift from God. All should work to preserve the human life. Killing people for difference of opinion cannot be accepted. The healthy development of a society depends on recognizing divergent views. Hence we appeal to all to stop killing people".

" All religions preach humanism, compassion and forgiveness. We are children of God. We should forgive others and love them. We must find unity in diversity and should ensure all human beings living without fear,' the statement further said.

The statement added" Inhuman and undemocratic activities that had taken place have created a fear in the minds of the people that this could lead us into another war. We cannot attain peace or freedom through guns and deaths. Peaceful life is possible by adopting the policy of forgiveness".

"We cannot justify at all the intimidation, threats, murders and attempted murders against candidates, government officials, academicians and innocent people.We pray for those who have suffered due to recent tragic incidents, " said the statement signed by the leading religious dignitaries in the district.

Tamils flee tense Sri Lanka town

Up to 1,000 Tamils have fled the eastern town of Batticaloa, saying they were forced out by supporters of renegade Tamil Tiger Colonel Karuna.

The Tamils, from the northern Jaffna area, have returned home or gone to the capital, Colombo.

The town has been tense since the killing of a politician linked to Colonel Karuna on Tuesday.

The colonel broke from the northern Tigers faction this month, saying it was failing to represent the east.

Catholic Bishop Kingsley Swampillai, who has tried to mediate between opposing factions, condemned the exodus, saying the businessmen, students and officials were leaving under duress.

A spokesman for Colonel Karuna denied the Jaffna Tamils had been under any pressure to leave.

பயமுறுத்தல், கொலை, கொலை முயற்சி, வன்முறை போன்றவற்றின் மூலம் அப்பாவி மக்களும் வேட்பாளர்களும் அரசாங்க உத்தியோத்தர்களும் புத்திஐPவிகளும் கட்டாயப்படுத்தப்படுவதை நாம் எவ்விதத்திலும் நியாயப்படுத்த முடியாது. அண்மைக்கால நிகழ்வுகளால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்காக நாம் பிரார்த்திக்கிறோம். தொடர்ந்தும் இந்நிகழ்வுகள் நடைபெறாதிருக்க அனைத்துத் தரப்பினரதும் ஒத்துழைப்பை அவசரமாகக் கேட்டு நிற்கிறோம்."

Tamil Tigers seek voters' support

Hundreds of Sri Lankan farmers and fishermen sit cross-legged on the ground in the dark, entranced by the very loud music.

After 20 years of war, the music group made up of Tamil Tiger rebels is a major attraction on the tiny island of Punguduthivu, off the northern Jaffna coast.

Old men have tears in their eyes as they sway to the music - young boys look on in amazement.

And amazed they should be by lyrics like, "we have the leader's order so attack and protect the Tamil Eelam soil" and "the Sinhalese burned our houses and then laughed at us".

The songs of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) might make you think this was a rebel recruitment drive rather than a meeting to drum up support ahead of Friday's general elections.

"To us the LTTE is the only movement that counts and [Tigers' chief Velupillai] Prabhakaran is the only leader who counts," says Eelavendan, a candidate for the Tamil National Alliance, which has the backing of the rebels.

Street drama

This is the first time the Tigers have campaigned openly in the north-east.

Senior rebel commanders attend election meetings in government-controlled territory - something that would have been unthinkable just two years ago, before a ceasefire came into effect.

Mr Eelavendan says this is not so much an election as a referendum on the armed struggle.

"The world is saying, alright you fought and did some wonders but what guarantee is there that you have the backing of the people," Mr Eelavendan says, adding that this election will prove 70% to 80% of the Tamil people back the rebels.

By day, the campaign trail involves street drama.

People who have lost their land are encouraged to express their anger and one woman breaks down in tears saying she wants to go back to her home to die but it is in a military high security zone.

Setting an example

"First we want healing, only then can we think about our election," says 49-year-old Padmani Sithamparanathan - a new entrant into politics.

Addressing a crowd of villagers she says it is time to tell the world that they support the Tigers and want self-determination.

If she is elected on the Tamil National Alliance ticket, Ms Sithamparanathan will become the first woman MP from Jaffna - in itself a small revolution.

"The LTTE is ours and we are LTTE-ers," she says with a sweet giggle.

And if the electorate were in any doubt, women Tigers turn up at her meetings to clap and sing the campaign songs.

"We are proud that women have come forward and set an example," says the political chief of the women Tigers, Thamilini.

"I think our dream is coming true," she says, referring to the feminist ideology of the rebel movement.

The Tigers are so heavily involved in this election campaign that the question arises why they do not contest it directly.

Ms Thamilini has the answer: "So far, Tamils' rights have not been recognised and no final settlement reached so at this moment it is not possible for us to accept the Sri Lankan government's constitution and stand for elections."

In the run-up to Friday's poll, there have been reports that the Tigers have been intimidating Tamil groups not supporting them.

Some say it is wrong for a group that is still armed to be involved in electioneering at all.

Others argue it is a positive development that the rebels are forced to solicit votes and be responsive to their people.

I ask one voter, Indradevi, who says she is going to cast her ballot for the Tamil National Alliance, whether she is unconcerned that the party is backed by the same rebels who have been abusing human rights.

"Although they collect tax from us and recruit child soldiers, the Tigers are still the sole representatives of the Tamil people," she says, adding: "They are fighting for us".

Their methods may sometimes be brutal but for many Tamils the Tigers are also the last defence.

The appeal of Tamil unity runs deeper than concerns about democracy.

COLOMBO (AFP) - Sri Lanka's prime minister held emergency talks with Norwegian truce monitors amid fears of factional war between rival Tamil Tiger rebels, officials said.

Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe discussed the deteriorating security situation in the eastern district of Batticaloa where an election candidate and his relative were gunned Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday.

"The prime minister discussed the situation in Batticaloa and measures to ensure a free and fair election in the district," a spokesman for Wickremesinghe said.

He said the head of the Norwegian-led Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Trond Furuhovde, his deputy and the Norwegian ambassador here, Hans Brattskar took part in the talks at Wickremesinghe's official residence.

Hundreds of additional troops had been poured to the Batticaloa district amid mounting tension after the killings.

Police have linked the killing to rivalry between two factions of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), whose campaign for independence has cost 60,000 lives since 1972.

The LTTE's regional commander for Batticaloa and the neighbouring Ampara districts broke away from the main rebel group earlier this month fuelling fears of a showdown between the rival factions.

The renegade commander, V. Muralitharan, better known as Karuna, has asked for a separate truce with government forces, but has agreed to abide by the February 2002 accord between the Colombo government and the main Tiger movement.

LTTE requests Jaffna Tamils not to leave Batticaloa, Amparai

The political secretariat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Wednesday issued a statement appealing to the people who have been living in the districts of Batticaloa and Amparai for generations not to leave their habitats succumbing to the threats and the pressure directly issued by the Karuna group or in the name of any other organizations.

The LTTE headquarters has officially expelled Karuna as a disciplinary measure for his misconduct. Now he is an individual and engaged in issuing various statements in the name of LTTE of Batticaloa and Ampara for his survival. He has been currently engaged in threatening people who are opposed to his misconduct to leave their habitats and also plundering their properties with the assistance of anti-Tamil national elements and with his henchmen, said the LTTE statement

We appeal to all not to accept any statement by an individual Karuna as official releases of the LTTE. The LTTE has declared that all actions of the Karuna group, such as extortion plunder and acts of forcibly taking over properties, as unlawful and anti-national activities. Hence we request the Tamils of Batticaloa and Amparai not to follow any instruction issued by an individual Karuna any more, the LTTE said in the statement

The LTTE has appealed to Tamils of Amparai and Batticaloa to ensure safety and concern for those neighbors who are threatened to leave their habitats by an individual and to encourage them to stay.

Karuna's Eastern Rebellion: A Lost Cause

It would be foolish to accept the arguments of some anti-LTTE journalists that Karuna's breakaway from the main LTTE would spell disaster for the Tamil liberation struggle. On the contrary, I would argue that the Karuna factor would in the long run re-vitalize the LTTE to rectify some of its mistakes so as to further the struggle of Tamils for freedom, dignity and honour. I quite concur with the position of Anton Balasingham that the secession of the Karuna's eastern command will be a temporary one; it will be resolved sooner rather than later. Since the LTTE high command has taken a careful decision to remove Karuna, he might not be force to be reckoned with in the future. Karuna might have rebelled against the LTTE for his personal reasons, but in doing so, he undermined and questioned the validity of the Tamil struggle for a separate Eelam. What is unpardonable is that he is openly consorting and scheming with the enemy forces to wreck the very struggle that he and others sustained over the last two decades or so.

Karuna selfish actions might have caused some damage to the LTTE, but at the same time they have provided grounds for the outfit to seriously review its mistakes to ensure that such things do not happen in the future. Years of hardship, misery, exploitation and betrayals have provided valuable lessons to the LTTE to strengthen and renew its determination to serve Tamils in the country. Karuna's fought bravely for the ideals of Tamil freedom, but then in a matter of few seconds he has betrayed the hopes and aspirations of millions for Tamils for dignity and pride. He might have been a brave fighter and was rewarded for his deeds. However, the struggle for Tamil freedom is a collective one and no one individual could make a claim. Karuna should not forget the sacrifice of thousands of Tamils from various districts who laid down their lives under the brilliant and collective leadership of the LTTE. Eastern fighters as well fighters from other areas equally contributed to the various victories. At the same time, Karuna should not forget the fact that it was the leadership provided by Vellupillai Prabakaran that cultivated moral and material support from the millions of Tamils all across the world. Karuna's misguided rebellion is a temporary setback for the Tamil liberation movement. He might have had some grievances, but he unable to articulate them to the national leadership. He refused to answer the charges leveled against him. But instead went ahead to strike a peace deal with Chandrika Kumaratunga through the Norwegians. More than this, it is also rumored that he might have some secret dealings with the Sri Lankan armed forces. Having openly and secretly colluded with the enemy forces, he still has the temerity to claim that his faction constitutes the LTTE's eastern command. For unpardonable treacherous acts, the LTTE leadership has stripped him over his ranks and removed him form the eastern command. Lately, when he refused to accept the amnesty offer, he was ordered to be removed.

Karuna's treachery knows no limits. Following the split, he went public to criticize the leadership and to question the very basis of Tamil nationhood. It was the same Karuna who briefed the LTTE's Constitutional Affairs Committee that was instructed to come up with an interim administration proposal for the north and east. But today, he is saying that the east should not be linked with the north to constitute the homeland for Tamils. Karuna has played right into the hands of those reactionary forces that have long denied east as part of the Tamil homeland. Why this double-talk now? Why is he abandoning all that he said during the discussions on the interim administration proposal? What did he receive from the enemy forces that were so enticing and seductive that he would not think twice of abandoning the historical Tamil cause? It is obvious that more than two decades of political and military struggle have not endowed him with any degree of political maturity to fathom the larger cause of Tamil nationalism. Perhaps this one of the weaknesses of the LTTE; it has not only produced magnificent fighters but also political pigmies like Karuna.

Enemies of the LTTE are rejoicing; they can't wait for the ultimate destruction of the outfit. The Karuna factor provides with all the meat they need to dish our juicy stories to the world about the ill-fated nature of the Tamil liberation movement. Some of the famous anti-LTTE publications are reverting back to reality testing; caste-considerations blind them to anything worthwhile in a Dravidian-based national liberation movement. They cannot stomach the fact that world Tamils are not looking at Tamil Nadu but Tamil Eelam for a new inspirations. In a more particular sense, they are horrified to see Vellupillai Prabakaran as the new emerging Tamil hero! Once the LTTE Supremo was lambasted with all kinds of accusations, today with the Karuna factor capturing the headlines, he is castigated as the promoter of regionalism. Alternatively, Karuna is depicted as person who scarified much but blatantly wronged by Prabakaran. In a typical fashion, anti-LTTE forces are bent on resuscitating Karuna not because they love him but because they cannot stand the LTTE hierarchy in general and Prabakaran in particular.

Having met and discussed with various leaders of the Tamil national liberation movement including Karuna himself, I do not think that Karuna actions would pose a major problem for the Tamil nationalist movement. Karuna might be ambitious and has all the trapping of a feudal Gomindang warlord, but lacks the political credentials to inhibit or further the Tamil cause. His blatant sectarianism and regional chauvinism will hamper the political, social and economic advancement of Tamils. He might have some loyal adherents for a while, but sooner than later, he true intentions will be exposed. Initially, I like many others was puzzled as to why he made the decision to quite the outfit, but subsequent investigations revealed that his complaint of regional bias was not the real cause of the split. Rather it was merely invoked to hide his gross financial misappropriations, immoral conduct and not to speak of his vaulting ambition to be a leaders of a sort.

It really saddens me and millions of Tamils all over the world that one-time great Tamil commander and a close confidante of Prabakaran would stoop so low to betray the long and difficult struggle waged by ordinary Tamils in Tamil Eelam. Today, he is giving countless press interviews to perpetrate the view that Prabakaran gave up his ideal of separate Tamil Eelam. Having closely followed developments in Tamil Eelam for more than a decade, I certainly find this lie extremely nasty and objectionable. There is no iota of evidence anywhere to indicate that Prabakaran gave up the idea of a separate state. Prabakaran has always consistently maintained the argument from the time of the ceasefire agreement to the present that if substantial autonomy were not granted to Tamils in the north and east, the LTTE would not have no choice but seek the solution of a separate Eelam. The eagerness to separate and to seek political accommodation with the enemies of Tamil people has clouded the mind of Karuna to a point where he is unable to exercise his judgment.

I believe that the LTTE leadership will surmount the present crises without much difficulty in the near future. Karuna's boast of having a few thousand cadres to meet any challenge from the north should not be taken very seriously. Desertions from his camps are frequently taking place. Elections in the country will have to be concluded before the LTTE takes a more decisive action to weed the Karuna element before the cancer of treachery spreads. Meanwhile, the Sinhala establishment should maintain its neutrality in the present internal conflict within the LTTE. Overt or covert attempts to support the renegade Karuna would be interpreted as a hostile act by the LTTE with serious implications for the maintenance of peace.

ஈ.பி.டி.பி. டக்ளஸ் தேவானந்தா, ஆனந்தசங்கரி உட்பட வேறுசில வட்டாரங்களினாலும் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட அழுத்தத்தை அடுத்தே நிலையத்தின் தலைவர் பாக்கிய சோதி சரவணமுத்து சிங்களக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்களை வடக்கே அனுப்பும் முடிவுக்கு வந்தார் எனக் கூறப்படுகிறது.

இதுவரை நடைபெற்ற எந்தத் தேர்தல்களின்போதும் சிங்களக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்களை வடக்குக்கு இந்நிலையம் அனுப்பவில்லை. சர்வதேசக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்களோடு உள்ளுர் தமிழ்க் கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் சிலர் சேர்ந்தே கடந்த காலங்களில் வடக்கின் கண்காணிப்புப் பணியில் ஈடுபட்டுவந்தனர்.

ஆனால், உள்ளுர் தமிழ்க் கண்காணிப்பாளர்களில் தங்களுக்கு நம்பிக்கை இல்லை என்றும், சிங்கள மற்றும் முஸ்லிம் கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் வடக்கில் பணியாற்ற அழைக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும், டக்ளஸ் தேவானந்தா அண்மைக் காலத்தில் வலியுறுத்தி வந்தார். சுயேட்சை வேட்பாளர் ஆனந்தசங்கரியும் இந்த வேண்டுகோளை விடுத்திருந்தார்.

இந் நிலையில் சர்வதேசக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் ஐவர் மட்டுமே தேர்தல் வன்செயல்களைக் கண்காணிக்கும் மத்திய நிலையத்தினால் இம்முறை வடக்கில் பணியில் அமர்த்தப்படுவர் எனக் கூறப்பட்டு வந்தது.

எனினும், தேர்தலுக்கு இரண்டு நாள் இருக்கையில், இறுதி நேரத்தில், பத்து சிங்களக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்களை வடக்கே பணிக்கு அவசர அவசரமாக அனுப்பிவைக்க நிலை யத்தின் தலைவர் பாக்கியசோதி சரவணமுத்து நடவடிக்கை எடுத்திருக்கிறார் எனக் கூறப்படுகிறது.

தேர்தல் வன்செயல்களைக் கண்காணிக்கும் மத்திய நிலையத்தினால் சர்வதேச கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் ஐவருக்கு மேலதிகமாக சிங்களக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் பத்துப்பேர் இம்முறை வடக்கில் கண்காணிப்பில் ஈடுபடுவர். தமிழர்கள் எவரும் இந்தக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் பட்டியலில் இடம்பெறவில்லை.

இந்தப் பத்து சிங்கள கண்காணிப்பாளர்கள் கொடுக்கும் அறிக்கையை வைத்து, யாழ். தொகுதியில் நடந்த வன்முறைகளை ஆராயவுள்ளதால், இது யாழ். தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு எதிரான ஒரு நடவடிக்கையாக அமையுமென்றும், தமிழ் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்பு முழு ஆசனங்களையும் கைப்பற்றும் பட்சத்தில், சிங்களக் கண்காணிப்பாளர்களின் கூற்றை வைத்து, தேர்தல் முடிவுகளை செல்லுபடியற்றதாக அறிவிக்க வாய்ப்புள்ளதாக அவதானிகள் கருத்துக் கூறியுள்ளார்கள்.

தமிழினமே ஏன் இந்த நிலை உனக்கு...தன்னினத்தையே இன்னோர் இனம் கொண்டு கண்காணிப்பவன் நாளை உங்களின் பிரதிநிதிகளாக பாராளுமன்றம் போவதற்காய் தேர்தலில்....என்னே வேடிக்கை...சன நாய் அகத்தின் மாஜாலாம் கோலோஞ்சி விட்டதோ.....வெறும் 15 கள்ள வாக்குகளால் பாராளுமன்றம் போய் சுகபோகம் கண்டபோது எந்தச் சிங்களவன் கண்காணித்தானோ.....????! ஏதோ நடக்கட்டும்....எமக்கும் வாக்குச் சீட்டுக்கும் தொடர்பே வேண்டாம் என்றுதானே அறுத்துவிட்டோமே....???!

கிருபா என்ற ஈ.பி.டி.பி. நபரைப் பற்றிய தகவலெதையும் பெற முடியாத நிலையில் திண்டாடிய நிலையிலேயே, பொலிசார் ஏற்கனவே நிமலராஜன் கொலையில் பிடிவிறாந்து பிறப்பிக்கப்பட்ட நபரான ஜெகனைக் கைது செய்திருந்தனர். இவர் ஊர்காவற்துறை நீதவானின் பணிப்பின் பெயரில் யாழ் நீதவானின் முன்னிலையில் இன்று தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டார்.

இதன்போதே ஜெகன் என்பவரும், கிருபா என்பவரும் ஒரே நபரே என்பதும், பாலியற் துன்புறுத்தலில் இவரே ஈடுபட்டுள்ளார் என்பதும் வெளிச்சத்திற்கு வந்துள்ளது.

Tamils flee east Sri Lanka

TAMIL residents began fleeing this eastern Sri Lankan town overnight as hundreds of troops poured in amid arson attacks and fears of a factional war between Tamil Tiger rebels, residents and police said.

A shop owned by an ethnic Tamil from the north of the island was torched overnight following the killing of local politician Rajan Sathyamoorthy on Tuesday, allegedly by Tamil rebels from the north, police said.

"Several shops have been torched here," a local police official said. "Tamils who trace their origins to the island's north have begun fleeing after Mr Sathyamoorthy was killed."

Hundreds of troops poured into the region in a show of force to discourage fighting between the rival rebel factions, officials in the capital said.

Most of the shops in Batticaloa town, just 10kms south, were closed as people feared an eruption of fighting, residents said.

"Our whole community is living in fear," said retired banker from Jaffna, S. Sabanathan, adding his friends had witnessed shops being shut by force and the keys taken away by rebels.

"My family is living in fear. We do not know what will happen (from one moment to the next)."

Leaflets distributed among residents had warned Jaffna Tamils, or those from the northern region of the island, to leave the district of Batticaloa within 24 hours.

The victim of Tuesday's shooting, Sathyamoorthy, a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) election candidate, had been a supporter of breakaway Tamil Tiger leader V. Muralitharan, better known as Karuna, who holds sway in this eastern area. Karuna broke away from the group's main northern leadership earlier this month.

The rebels have vowed they will not resort to bloodshed to sort out their unprecedented split, but police said the first shots had already been fired with Tuesday's slaying and the subsequent arson attacks.

The defence ministry said another shop owned by a Jaffna had been torched Tuesday after the renegade rebels ordered Jaffna Tamils to quit this region within 24 hours.

A spokesman for the renegade commander, V. Muralitharan, denied they were responsible for the forced eviction.

More than 1000 Sri Lankan soldiers patrolled the city in trucks and on motorbikes and policemen checked vehicles entering the tense town.
