போர் நிறுத்தத்தை முறித்துக்கொண்டதன் மூலம் இலங்கையை 1997 ஆம் ஆண்டின் காலப்பகுதிக்கு அரச தலைவர் மகிந்த ராஜபக்ச கொண்டு சென்றுள்ளார். அந்த காலப்பகுதியில் தான் இராணுவம் பெரும் படை நடவடிக்கையை மேற்கொண்டதுடன், தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளும் பல தொடர் தாக்குதல்களை பெருமெடுப்பில் மேற்கொண்டிருந்தனர் என்று அனைத்துலக ஊடகமான ரொய்ட்டர்ஸ் செய்தி நிறுவனம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

யுத்தநிறுத்த ஒப்பந்தத்தில் பல விதிகளை மீறிய சிங்கள அரசு, மேலும் மீறித் தமிழர் படுகொலைகளை அரங்கேற்றுவதற்கு யுத்தநிறுத்ததில் இருந்து விலத்தியிருக்கின்றது. யுத்தவிதிகளின் முரணான எல்லைக் கோட்டை மீறிய நில ஆக்கிரமிப்பு, ஏ9 பாதை, மூடல், தமிழ்மக்கள் மீதான பொருளாதாரத் தடை, தமிழ் மக்கள் கைதுகள், படுகொலைகள் சித்தவதைகள் போன்றவற்றை இந்த யுத்தநிறுத்த காலப்பகுதியில் அரங்கிகேற்றி இருக்கின்றது. மகிந்தவின் காலத்தில் விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் சமாதான செயலகத்திற்குக் கிடைக்கப்பட்ட கணக்கெடுப்பின் படி 2104 தமிழ் மக்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டும், 988 பேர் காணாமல் போயுமுள்ளார்கள். காணாமல் போனவர்களும், பெரும்பாலும் கொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கலாம்.

அப்பாவியாக இருந்து ஒவ்வொருவொருவராக மரணித்ததை விட, யுத்தத்தில் கூட இத்தனை இழப்புக்களை எம்மக்கள் சந்தித்திருக்கமாட்டார்கள்.

ஒவ்வொரு தமிழனும் எனி வரும் காலங்களில் தங்களின் சுயபாதுகாப்பை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும். ஒவ்வொருவனையும் பாதுகாக்கின்ற அளவுக்கு பலமான என்னமும் நாமும் மாறவில்லை. உலகமும் இல்லை.

தமிழரைப் பொறுத்தவரைக்கும் பலமாக இருந்து போராடவரவில்லை. பலவீனமாக இருந்ததால் தான் போராட வந்தவர்கள். எதிரியுடைய சதிப் பேச்சுக்களை நம்பாமல், எதிரியின் வலைக்கு இரையாகமல், நம் தலைவரின் வழி நடந்து சவால்களை முறியடிப்போம்

Canada regrets Sri Lanka terminating truce agreement

Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Maxime Bernier, in a press release issued today, regretted Sri Lanka's decision to withdraw from the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA), and expressed concern about the "escalating violence on civilians, humanitarian workers and human rights defenders," and that Sri Lanka's action will make "search for a more durable solution more difficult."

STATEMENT ON THE POSSIBLE ESCALATION OF VIOLENCE IN SRI LANKA

The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement following developments in Sri Lanka:

“Canada deeply regrets the decision of the Government of Sri Lanka to withdraw from the 2002 Ceasefire Agreement.

“Withdrawal from this important agreement will make the search for a durable political solution more difficult, and only increases the likelihood that the incidents of violence being carried out by both sides will increase.

“We remain deeply concerned about the impact of the escalating violence on civilians, humanitarian workers and human rights defenders. Violence will not produce solutions, it will only bring more tragedy to the people of Sri Lanka.

“We call on all parties to respect human rights and to work urgently toward political solutions that will bring peace to Sri Lanka.”
