சிறீலங்காவில் கடந்த வாரம் நடைபெற்ற பாதுகாப்புத்துறை மாநாட்டை தோற்கடித்ததில் மனித உரிமை அமைப்புக்களின் பங்களிப்புக்கள் மிகப்பெரியது என கொழும்பில் உள்ள இராஜதந்திர வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

இது தொடர்பில் அவை மேலும் தெரிவித்துள்ளதாவது:

இந்த மாநாட்டுக்கு வருமாறு 54 நாடுகளுக்கு சிறீலங்கா அரசு அழைப்புக்களை அனுப்பியிருந்தது. ஆனால் மிகப்பெரும் மனித உரிமை மீறல்களை மேற்கொண்டு, மக்களை படுகொலை செய்த இராணுவத்தின் மாநாட்டில் கலந்துகொள்ள வேண்டாம் என அனைத்துலக மனித உரிமை அமைப்புக்கள் மேற்கொண்ட தீவிரமான பிரச்சாரத்தை தொடர்ந்து, அமெரிக்கா, சுவிற்சலாந்து, பிரித்தானியா, யப்பான், அவுஸ்திரேலியா, பிரான்ஸ் ஆகிய நாடுகள் அதில் கலந்துகொள்வதை தவிர்த்துக்கொண்டன.

அதன் பின்னர் சிறீலங்காவில் அமைதியையும், நீதியையும் நிலைநாட்டும் அமைப்பினர் தொலைபேசி போராட்டத்தை ஆரம்பித்திருந்தனர். சிறீலங்காவின் மாநாட்டில் பற்குபற்றும் நாடுகளுக்கு தொலைபேசி அழைப்புக்களை மேற்கொண்டு அதில் பங்குபற்ற வேண்டாம் என்ற கோரிக்கைகளை விடுத்திருந்தனர்.

கடந்த மாதம் 25 ஆம் நாள் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட இந்த போராட்டத்தின் தொடர்ச்சியாக கனடாவின் பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சகத்துடன் தொடர்புகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. தொடர்ச்சியான வேண்டுகோள்கதை; தொடர்ந்து இரவு 9.00 மணியளவில் சிறீலங்காவின் மாநாட்டை புறக்கணிப்பதற்கு கனடாவும் இணங்கியது.

இதனை கேள்விப்பட்ட சிறீலங்கா அரச தலைவர் மகிந்தா ராஜபக்சாவும் அதில் கலந்துகொள்வதை தவிர்த்துக்கொண்டார். சிறீலங்காவின் மாநாட்டில் கலந்துகொண்டவர்களில் செனகல் நாட்டின் இராணுவத்தளபதியே உயர் அதிகாரி ஆவார் என அவை மேலும் தெரிவித்துள்ளன.

Dear supporter,

We would like to thank all of you who called your defence ministry to protest against its involvement in the Government of Sri Lanka's "Defeating Terrorism" seminar which has just finished.

Our supporters targeted government switchboards in 48 countries, and within twelve hours our primary target, the government of Canada, announced that they would be pulling out of the seminar.

We know that this action has helped to highlight past and present human rights abuses in the country, and demonstrated that people around the world care about Sri Lanka and want to see justice done. Thanks, in part, to your actions the seminar was a damp squib with only mid level committee members from the remaining nations attended amidst reports that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa had pulled out of the event due to its reduced stature, and soldiers had been brought in to fill the empty seats. The Army Chief of Senegal was the only senior military figure in attendance.
