Six of the Tamil civilians who died in the boat were from Eevinai, two were from Kayts and the rest were from Erlalai. [size=5]1996 : Kirushanthy Kumaraswamy was arrested on her way home from school at the kaithady army check point on the orders of the army corporal who was in charge. Her mother , Rasamma Kumaraswamy,who became anxious when her daughter did not return, went to the check point with Kirushanthy s brother Piranapan and a neighbour Kirupaharan. They were also arrested by the soldiers at the check point. At 10pm that night Kirushanthy s mother, brother and neighbour were strangled by soldiers and their bodies buried in shallow graves in the Hindu Chemmani Cemetery. At 11pm Kirushanthy was gang raped and then killed, her body was taken to the same cemetery. The bodies of the four were discovered on the 24th of October. Army involved were arrested but not convicted yet, the bodies brought to colombo were cremated within 2hrs, no reportes with camera were allowed and the trial at Bar is now ordere by the President.

The bodies of young women bore the marks of been raped. At least twenty two Tamil civilians who returned to inspect their homes which they had fled ahead of a Sri Lankan army offensive disappeared in areas just outside positions held by the army. Their homes were in Santhapuram, Vasanthapuram, Murikandy and Selvapuram. They are believed to have been arrested and disappeared by Sri Lankan troops, as they have never been seen since. Their relatives lodged appeals with the ICRC in Mallavi.[/size]

A Tamil man was killed after Sri Lankan Kfir warplanes bombed Mankulam and Kanakarayankulam residential areas for 7 hours non-stop last Monday. A passenger van travelling on the main road was chased and bombed by these planes at 1:30 PM and the Tamil man on board was torn to pieces. His identity has not yet been established. Three others (displaced persons) were critically injured in the incident and are now in Mallavi hospital. Their names are - A. Arulamriampillai (62) Chelliah Paramalingam (32) and Nagarasa Yokaraseswaran (32).[/size]

The Kalmunai Magistrate retuned today a verdict of homicide in the death of Sathasivam Sanjeevan, 19, a student of WesleyCollege in the eastern town. Sanjeevan was shot dead on 15 October 1998, while being held under the detention of Kalmunai police.[/size]
