In the early 19th century, Travancore had a barbaric and oppressive law that was highly degrading for its women. The Mulakkaram, or the 'breast tax,' was a tax to be paid by the Dalit women of Travancore per the size of their breasts. The regime subjugated the lower castes and ensured they stayed in debt with barbaric laws and taxes on things as trivial as the right to wear jewellery and, for men, the right to grow a moustache. …

WHAT DOES YOUR TONGUE SAY ABOUT YOUR STATE OF HEALTH? If you are feeling under the weather, just stick out your tongue – the state it’s in can present an accurate picture of your health. The colour, texture and moisture of your tongue can provide signs of what’s going on inside your body. Many complementary therapies, including Acupuncture and Naturopathy, use the tongue to aid diagnosis. When examining the tongue, the Acupuncturist looks at the colour of the tongue body, its’ size and shape, the colour and thickness of its’ coating or fur, locations of abnormalities and moistness or dryness of the tongue body and fur. These signs reveal not only overall states …

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/A9-pathway/ Hi to all, My name is Bairavi Ratnabal, a seventeen year old British born Tamil who shares deep concerns over my mother land. As you may know the A9 road has been closed, this is the road which lays between Columbo and Jaffna, a access pathway to food, water and medicine but the notorious Sri Lankan Government has closed the road denying all admission to daily essentials, this is leading to the loss of delicate lives of our people. By Peter Apps COLOMBO (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers launched a new attack overnight on the northern Jaffna peninsula, the army said on Thursday, as a U.S. envoy visited the island but the worst fighting since a 2002 truce showed no sign of abating. The military said it had few details but that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had launched a new offensive around Kilali, at the western end of the peninsula's front line. Since the Tigers launched attacks toward Jaffna last week, telephone communication with the area has been virtually cut off. "There is an attack in Jaffna, that is all we can say," said an army spokesman. An aid worker report…
