Pillayan no darling of Tamils, Hisbullah no champion of Muslims

It was 12.20 am March 3.. Six men armed with rifles got into the house by force as Logeswaran opened the door. "Where is Pushparani?" asked the gang. The sight of them chilled Logeswaran’s spine. It was he and his only sister Pushparani, who was preparing to sit for her GCE O/Level exams, who were living in the house as the 2004 tsunami had taken away their parents and other siblings.

The goons having tied her hands and legs, carried her forcibly to the white van. "My sister was screaming, begging me to help her. But I was unable to do anything. Within those few seconds, I saw the desperation in her eyes, but I failed to save her," Logeswaran cried.

On the same day, in another part of the district, young Yoganathan Iyostha was snatched away from her room by five men armed with rifles when she was studying for her exams, also in a white van in which there were more people. Two men tied a white cloth around her mother’s mouth and pinned her to the floor. On both occasions the abductors asked for the girls by name.

The third was a girl working in a beauty parlour in Batticaloa. She was abducted by armed men on March 9, and forcibly taken away in a white van in an area that was well guarded at the time of the incident. However the family members refused to comment further in fear of being harmed by the perpetrators.

State complicity?

The National Peace Council of Sri Lanka in an advertisement in the Sunday papers of May 18 reported the rape of two teenage girls and the abduction of one in Kalmunai in the presence of the family on the day of the Eastern Provincial Council election. The family alleges that armed men came in a white van and committed the crime on their children. When the mother went to the police station to make a complaint the police reportedly sent her away on the grounds that most of the officers were on election duty.

Later that same night the men returned and took the elder girl away. She is missing since then. The report that the police refused to accept their complaints points to state culpability in the practice of impunity.

While abduction of young girls in white vans has gripped Batticaloa in fear, parents said that they were afraid to sleep at night, fearing that very soon their daughters too would be taken away. Many parents have stopped sending their daughters to school and fear to let them even step near the front door.

In the meantime the Human Rights Commission said they were unaware of the reasons for the kidnapping of young girls. Although this issue had been brought to the notice of the relevant authorities, they remain silent, leaving the family members of those abducted without any hope. "We certainly know it is not for recruitment purposes and it not a personal feud. We are at this moment trying to figure out why these people might want to abduct young girls," some parents said.

Apart from the Pillayan Group are there any others permitted to carry weapons openly and roam the streets in the east? No. Well, if so, do you expect any Tamil mother with grown-up daughters to leave home or take the trouble to vote for the TMVP with love?

For a Tamil woman her virtue is the greatest asset in the world and she will happily give her life rather than surrender her body. This was one of the reasons why Batti Tamils shied away from the polling booths which made the government’s strategy go wrong while the Muslims gained more votes aiming for the chief minister’s (CM) post. Be that as it may, the LTTE has never been accused of sexual violence.

New brand of democracy

Is this the type of democracy we can expect from the new Eastern Provincial Council (EPC)? First, is Colombo the torch-bearer of democracy? While Pillayan was taking his ‘oath’ in Colombo his cadres were busy attacking Hizbullah’s supporters. What a way to celebrate a democratic victory. What is the assurance that tomorrow they would not enter their houses too? Is rape not a crime according to the Chinthana? Pillayan’s VIP supporters still boast that the best thing that ever happened in this country was ‘democratising’ the ‘former’ Tiger.

On the flip side Hizbullah’s treacherous antics not only put the Muslim community to shame but also placed them in an unwanted, confrontational position with other communities and the government. He is in a politically awkward situation today because of what he did. Such frequent pole vaulters should not be taken back to the fold under any circumstances. Before his antics he was the undeclared CM candidate of the SLMC. As such how was it that it dawned on him only after meeting the presidential advisor, that a Muslim CM could emerge only with government backing whereas already there was a black horse in the running?

Mushrooming Muslim politicians

The present electoral system has produced many young Muslim parliamentarians sans political expertise or decency, or even village council experience. They have overestimated themselves and as a result their words and deeds have become extravagant. The same Hizbullah who abused Hakeem as a traitor who deprived the chance of a Muslim CM, today points the finger at another person.

In my article in The Morning Leader of May 7, I questioned: "As far as the public knows no such statement ever emanated from the horse’s mouth. By other Muslim ministers merely attributing the promise to him but the President actually not saying it will obviously give the President a chance to act according to the situation as he hasn’t officially committed himself. If so, is this another way to deceive the people by unscrupulous politicians?" Subsequently the President was said to have given an assurance via satellite TV.

As it is Hizbullah is steadfast in his fight between David and Goliath. But is he honest and dependable? In an interview with the BBC he said that he would give his fullest support if the SLMC wanted to form the council. As far as this columnist is concerned it would be unwise to seek his support. I strongly believe he is not one to be trusted purely going by his track record.

It would be good if I am proved wrong in the interest of the Muslim community where I solemnly believe that they were taken for a ride. Is not Hisbullah’s security withdrawn or reduced yet as he is only a provincial council member?

The creator

This mess was singularly created by Hizbullah and he only should solve it. Killing the EPC at birth and going for another election will be a wasteful exercise. Isn’t it prudent on the part of the opposition to hit the government back with the same stick that was used by the government to hit the opposition (provided Hizbullah does not change by the time this is read)?

Let Hizbullah and his associates form the council with the UNP-SLMC group backing it from the outside and holding the reins. It could be short-lived even then. But it will be an appropriate come-back on the government that high-handedly conducted the election and belittled others.

Also the opposition can gain some appreciation from those innocent Muslims who swallowed the CM pill given by the government. On the other hand, the chieftain, the creator of this tussle, would learn the hard way that ‘If you run after two sheep, you catch neither.

பாலியல் வல்லுறவில் ஈடுபட்டதாலேயே பிள்ளையான் கும்பலுக்கு தமிழ் மக்கள் வாக்களிக்கவில்லை: "த மோர்ணிங் லீடர்"

மட்டக்களப்பில் இளம் பெண்களை வெள்ளை வானில் கடத்திச்சென்று பாலியல் வல்லுறவுக் கொடூரங்களில் ஈடுபட்டமையாலே சிறிலங்காப் படையினருடன் சேர்ந்தியங்கும் துணைப்படையான பிள்ளையான் குழுவுக்கு தமிழ் மக்கள் வாக்களிக்கவில்லை என்று சிறிலங்காவின் தலைநகர் கொழும்பிலிருந்து வெளியாகும் "த மோர்ணிங் லீடர்" வார ஏடு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

அந்த வார ஏட்டின் கட்டுரை ஒன்றில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள தகவல்கள்:

மார்ச் 3 ஆம் நாள் நள்ளிரவு 12:20 மணியளவில் 6 துப்பாக்கிதாரிகள் பலவந்தமாக லோகேஸ்வரனின் வீட்டிற்குள் புகுந்தனர்.

"புஸ்பராணி எங்கே?" என அவர்கள் கேட்டார்கள். ஆயுததாரிகளைப் பார்த்து லோகேஸ்வரன் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்தார்.

ஆழிப்பேரழிவின் கோர சீற்றத்திற்கு தமது சொந்தங்களை எல்லாம் பறிகொடுத்தன் பின்னர் லோகஸ்வரனும் அவரது சகோதரியும் அந்த வீட்டில் வசித்து வருகின்றனர்.

புஸ்பராணி இம்முறை கல்விப் பொதுத் தராதர சாதாரண தரப் பரீட்சையில் தோற்றுவதற்கு தயாராகி வந்தார்.

ஆயுததாரிகள் புஸ்பராணியின் கைகளையும், கால்களையும் கட்டி வெள்ளை வானில் ஏற்றிச் சென்றனர். தன்னை காப்பாற்றுமாறு லோகேஸ்வரனின் தங்கை ஓலமிட்டார்.

எனினும் அந்தக் கணப்பொழுதில் எல்லாம் நடந்து முடிந்து விட்டது. எனது தங்கையை கடத்திச் சென்று விட்டார்கள் என லோகஸ்வரன் கண்ணீர் மல்க தெரிவித்தார்.

அதே நாளில் மாவட்டத்தின் மற்றொரு பகுதியில் பரீட்சைக்குத் தயாராகிக்கொண்டிருந்த யோகநாதன் யசோதா என்ற இளம் பெண்ணை ஐந்து ஆயுததாரிகள் வெள்ளை வானில் கடத்திச் சென்றுள்ளனர்.

இந்த இரண்டு சந்தர்ப்பங்களிலும் கடத்தல்காரர்கள் கடத்தப்பட்ட பெண்களின் பெயர்களை விசாரித்துள்ளனர்.

மட்டக்களப்பு அழகுக்கலை நிலையமொன்றில் பணியாற்றும் பெண் ஒருவரும் கடத்தப்பட்ட மூன்றாவது பெண் ஆவார்.

கடந்த மார்ச் மாதம் 9 ஆம் நாள் வெள்ளை வானில் வந்த கும்பல் ஒன்று இளம் பெண் ஒருவரைக் கடத்திச் சென்றுள்ளது.

எனினும், ஆயுதக்குழுவிற்கு இருக்கும் அச்சம் காரணமாக வேறு தகவல்களை வெளியிட உறவினர்கள் மறுத்து விட்டனர்.

இரண்டு இளம் பெண்கள், பாலியல் வல்லுறவுக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட்டிருப்பதாக தேசிய சமாதானப் பேரவை கடந்த 18 ஆம் நாள் வெளியான ஞாயிறு பத்திரிகையில் விளம்பரப்படுத்தியிருந்தது.

இதில் முதலாமவர் தேர்தல் நடைபெற்ற நாள் அன்று கல்முனைப் பிரதேசத்தில் கடத்திச்சென்று பாலியல் வல்லுறவுக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளார்.

வெள்ளை வானில் வந்த ஆயுதக்குழு, இந்த பாதகச் செயலை மேற்கொண்டதாக பாதிக்கப்பட்ட இளம் பெண்ணின் பெற்றோர் குற்றம் சாட்டுகின்றனர்.

இச்சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக முறைப்பாடு செய்வதற்காக காவல் நிலையத்திற்குச் சென்ற அப்பெண்ணின் தயார் பல இடங்களுக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கப்பட்டதாகத் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

தேர்தல் பணிகளில் சிறிலங்கா காவல்துறையினர் ஈடுபட்டிருப்பதனால் விசாரணைகளை மேற்கொள்ள முடியாதுள்ளதாக காவல்துறையினர் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட இளம் பெண்ணின் தாயாரிடம் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

பின்னர் அக்குழுவினர் மீண்டும் வீட்டுக்கு வந்து இளம் பெண்ணின் அக்காவையும் கடத்திச் சென்றுள்ளனர்.

இச்சம்பவங்கள் தொடர்பான முறைப்பாடுகளை சிறிலங்கா காவல்துறையினர் ஏற்க மறுத்துவிட்டனர்.

மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்தில் இளம் பெண்களை கடத்தப்படுவது தொடர்பான பீதி ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

சில பெற்றோர் தமது பிள்ளைகளை பாடசாலைக்கு அனுப்புவதனை நிறுத்தியுள்ளனர்.

வீட்டின் முற்றத்திற்கு பெண் பிள்ளைகளை தனியே அனுப்புவதற்கும் அச்சமாக உள்ளதாக மட்டக்களப்பைச் சேர்ந்த பெற்றோர்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.

இளம் பெண்கள் கடத்தப்படுவதற்கான காரணம் என்ன என்பது குறித்து அறிய முடியாமல் இருப்பதாக மனித உரிமைகள் ஆணையம் தெரிவிக்கின்றது.

மேலும், இளம் பெண்கள் கடத்தப்படுவது தொடர்பாக உரிய அதிகாரிகளுக்கு அறிவித்துள்ளதாகவும், இதுவரையில் எந்தவித நடவடிக்கையும் எடுக்கப்படவில்லை எனவும் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகின்றது.

தனிப்பட்ட குரோதமோ அல்லது போராட்டத்தில் இணைத்துக்கொள்ளும் நோக்கிலோ இளம் பெண்கள் கடத்தப்படவில்லை என பிரதேசத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சில பெற்றோர்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகின்றனர்.

பிள்ளையான் குழுவினரைத் தவிர்ந்த வேறு குழுவினருக்கு கிழக்கில் ஆயுதம் ஏந்திச் செல்ல அனுமதியில்லை. அப்படியானல் பெண் பிள்ளைகளைப் பெற்ற எந்தத் தாயாவது தமிழ் மக்கள் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் அமைப்பிற்கு மனமுவந்து வாக்களித்திருக்க சாத்தியம் உண்டா?

வரலாற்றுக் காலம் முதல் தமிழ்ப் பெண்கள் கற்பு ஒழுக்கத்தை மிக உன்னதமாக போற்றி பாதுகாக்கின்றனர். தமது உடலை மாற்றான் ஒருவருக்கு அளிப்பதனை விட உயிரை மாய்த்துக் கொள்வது சிறந்தது எனவே தமிழ்ப் பெண்கள் கருதுகின்றனர்.

கிழக்குத் தேர்தல்களில் தமிழ் மக்கள் அதிகளவில் வாக்களிக்காமைக்கு இதுவும் ஓர் பிரதான காரணியாகும்.

இச்சந்தர்ப்பத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி அதிகளவான முஸ்லிம் உறுப்பினர்கள் மாகாண சபைக்கு தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டனர்.

இறுதியில் இந்நிலைமை அரசாங்கத்திற்கு பாதகமான விளைவை ஏற்படுத்தியது. முதலமைச்சர் தெரிவில் ஏற்பட்ட குளறுபடிகளுக்கு இந்நிலைமை முக்கிய ஏதுவாக அமைந்தது.

பாலியல் ரீதியான துன்புறுத்தல்களில் தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகள் ஈடுபட்டதாக இதுவரையில் அறியக்கிடைக்கவில்லை என்று "த மோர்ணிங் லீடர்" ஏடு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

தெந்தமிழீழ உறவுகள் காலம்தாழ்த்தாது போராட்டத்தை பலப்படுத்துவது நல்லது... அடியைத்தவிர இதுக்கு வேறமருந்து இல்லை.

கிழக்கின் விடியலுக்கென்று இதே கும்பல் புறப்பட்டபோது ஆதரித்தவர்கள் இப்போது என்ன சொல்லப் போகிறார்கள் ? இன்றும் புலம்பெயர்ந்த நாடுகளில் இருந்து கொண்டு அவ்வப்போது இக்கும்பல்களுக்காக வாதாடியும், தமிழீழத் தேசியத் தலைமையை விமர்சித்தும் வரும் சிலர் தமது அக்கா, தங்கைகளுக்கு இதே கதி நடந்தால் என்ன செய்வார்கள் என்று கேட்க விருப்பம். ஒருவேளை கிழக்கின் விடியல்கள் தானே கடத்துகிறார்கள், போனால் போகட்டும், அவர்களும் அநுபவிக்கட்டும் என்று விட்டு விடுவார்களொ என்னவோ ???!!!!!!!!!!

பணம் பறித்தல் என்பதை கூட பணம் இருப்போர்களிடம்தான் எண்று மக்கள் மறந்து விடுவார்கள்... ஆனால் பெண் கடத்தல் வல்லுறவு எண்டதை யாரும் மறக்க மாட்டார்கள்... உதாரணமாக இந்திய இராணுவம் செய்த படு கொலைகளையும் விட்டும் முதலில் அவர்களின் கொடுமையை நினைவில் சொல்வது பாலியல் வன்புணர்வுகள்தான்....

இப்படியான நடவடிக்கைகள் எவ்வகையான பாதகங்களை கொண்டுவரும் என்பது பிள்ளையானுக்கு நண்றாக தெரியும்... அப்படி இருந்தும் நிகழ்கிறது எண்றால் காரணம் பிள்ளையான் குழு பிள்ளையானின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் இல்லை... அல்லது தன்னை யாராலும் அசைக்க முடியாது எனும் ஆதீத தன் நம்பிக்கை.... இது இரண்டும் பிள்ளையானுக்கு அழிவைத்தான் கொடுக்கும்...

அண்ணை லண்டனுக்கு வர இன்னும் ஒருத்தர் தலைவரானாலும் ஆச்சரியம் இல்லை...

பிரதேச வாதச் சேற்றுக்குள் புதைந்து இவர்கள் செய்யும் அநியாயங்களைச் சகிக்க முடியவில்லை. தமது சகோதரிகள் தாம் ஆதரிக்கும் ஒரு கொலைக்கும்பலால் மானபங்கப்படுத்தப்படும்போது

இவர்களைப் பொறுத்தவரை புலிகள் நடத்தும் போராட்டம் பிழையானது, தோல்வியடைந்து செல்கிறது, டக்கிளஸ் தேவானந்தாவின் அரசியல் மேன்மையானது, அவர் தமிழர்களுக்கு நண்மை செய்ய விரும்புகிறார், கிழக்கின் தேர்தல் மூலம் வடக்கும் கிழக்கும் ஒன்றிணைக்கப்படும், கிழக்கிற்கு சுபீட்சம் வரப்போகிறது.........என்ன குப்பை இது? போரட்டம் பற்றிச் சொல்ல இவர்களுக்கு என்ன அருகதை இருக்கிறது ? நாள்தோறும் தமிழீழத்தில் நடக்கும் எழுச்சிமிகு நிகழ்வுகள் பற்றி இந்த பணத்திமிரும், ஆதிக்கத் திமிரும் பிடித்த மரை கழன்றதுகள் அறிந்து கொண்டதுண்டா ?

அதிலும் விஷேஷம் என்னவென்றால், அங்கிருந்து கொண்டே ஈழத்தில் யாரும் போராட்டத்துக்கு ஆதரவு தெரிவிக்கவில்ல என்று ஒருத்தி கண்டு பிடித்திருக்கிறா. மொத்தச் சனத்தொகையில் புலிகளை ஆதரிப்பவர்கள் வெறும் 3 வீதம் மட்டும்தானாம். ஸ்டாலின் என்பவரின் பார்வையில் தமிழ் மக்கள் தமிழ்த்தேசியத்தை நிராகரித்து விட்டனர் என்பதற்கு அடையாளம் தானம் இந்தத் தேர்தல் வெற்றி. தேசியக் கட்ச்சிகளை மக்கள் ஆதரிக்கத் தொடங்கி விட்டனராம், அதனால்த்தானாம் அக்கட்சிகள் தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற்றன.புலிகளின் பாஸிஸவாதத்திற்கு முற்றுப்புள்ளி வைத்து விட்டனராம்.

இவர்களுக்கு என்ன பிரச்சனை ? எதற்காக இப்படி எழுதுகிறார்கள் ? இவர்களைத் தூக்கிப்பிடித்து ஆகா ஓகோ என்று கத்துவதற்கு ஒரு கூட்டம் இருக்கிறதா ? இவர்களின் கொட்டத்தை அடக்க நாம் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் ? போராட்டத்துக்கு இவ்வாறான கோடரிக் கம்புகள் செய்யும் அழிவின் அளவு புறக்கணிக்க முடியாதது.

இவர்கள் எமது சமூகத்திலிருந்து வேறருக்கப்பட வேண்டும், களையெடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும். இவர்கள் எவ்வளவுதான் பெரிய மனிதவுரிமை வாதிகளாகவோ, ஜனநாயக வாதிகளாகவோ இருதாலும் பரவாயில்லை, இவர்களின் செயல் தடுத்து நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்.
