You an entrepreneur? Answer these 10 questions

Summer is the season of possibilities. When everything is green and growing thoughts turn to nurturing that big, brilliant, business idea of yours – especially with months ahead of Dragon’s Den re-runs to get you inspired.

Before you venture into entrepreneur-land follow these four steps:

1. Assess yourself

Okay, you’ve got talent and a great concept. But are you entrepreneur material? Do you have these signs of the entrepreneurial gene?

a. A need for achievement

b. The desire to influence others

c. A love of autonomy at work

d. Self-assurance

e. A strong work ethic

f. A high action drive

g. The strength to keep leaping tall buildings when taller ones keep popping up.

h. Creativity.

i. Strong ego and competitiveness.

j. The ability to rebound from failure.

The final point is critical. I’ve interviewed many successful entrepreneurs over the years. They’ve all had failures, sometimes multiple failures and may have even gone bankrupt. Look hard into your past to assess how you’ve coped with your own failures.

2. Make a plan

A business plan sketches out the idea and gets specific about how to develop it. Included should be marketing strategies and thorough market research. There’s no point in duplicating what already exists or what has already failed. If you go looking for financing, a business plan is the first thing any lender will request.

3. Build your profile

This step involves coming up with a name, an on-line identity, a support group (lawyer, accountant, business networks) and taking care of things like registering your business, getting a GST\HST business number and deciding whether to incorporate or operate as a sole or joint proprietorship.

In the process you will also amass information about zoning restrictions and requirements such as handicap parking and health regulations.

4. Finance it

A dream often starts the entrepreneurial spirit boiling but money keeps it simmering. Know your cash flow needs to pay the bills but you will also need a pot of cash to get things underway. This entails visits to banks and other lenders to determine if you qualify (new businesses will likely have to lean on personal or home equity lines of credit).

Many who start new businesses make the mistake of using their personal cash flow, i.e. salary, spouse’s salary to fund the business. As most of us have little cash flow to spare, it makes for a very short business life span.

பதினெட்டு வயது வாலிபர் மில்லியனராக வருவதில் வெற்றி

டென்மார்க்கைச் சேர்ந்த 18 வயதுடைய கஸ்பா புலூம் என்ற இளைஞர் தனது பன்னிரண்டு வயதிலேயே ஒரு கனவு கண்டார்.

எப்படியாவது 18 வயதில் தான் ஒரு மில்லியனராக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதே அவருடைய இலட்சியமாகும். தனது சிறுவயது இலட்சியத்தில் வெற்றி பெறும் இடத்தை இப்போது நெருங்கிவிட்டதாகவும் அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

பாவித்த கொல்ப் பந்துகளை கழுவி துப்பரவாக்கி, புது மெருகூட்டி ஒன் லைன் மூலமாக விற்பனை செய்து வருகிறார். 100 – 200 பந்துகள் 200 – 250 குறோணருக்கு இவரால் விற்பனை செய்யப்படுகிறது. சென்ற ஆண்டு ஒரு மில்லியன் பந்துகளை விற்பதில் வெற்றி கண்டார். பாவனை செய்த பந்துகளை கழுவி துப்பரவு செய்து மீண்டும் பாக்கட் பண்ணி விற்பதற்காக இரவு 12 மணிவரை உறங்காமல் உழைத்து வருகிறார். பாடசாலை முடிய தொழிலை செய்து தனது இலக்கை நோக்கி நடக்கிறார். ஏப்ரல் மாதம் மட்டும் ஒரு லட்சம் குறோணருக்கு விற்பனை செய்துள்ளார். இந்த ஆண்டு மில்லியனராகும் தனது இலக்கு எட்டப்பட்டுவிடும் என்றும் மகிழ்வுடன் தெரிவிக்கிறார். ஒவ்வொரு இளைஞரும் அறிய வேண்டிய முயற்சி இதுவாகும்.

இந்த உலகில் பெரும்பான்மை மக்களால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டது 'திறந்த பொருளாதார கொள்கை'. இதன் அடிப்படை தத்துவங்களில் ஒன்று ' கொடுப்பனவும் தேவையும், Supply and Demand'.

மேற்குலக நாடுகளில் மக்களுக்கு/நுகர்வோகளுக்கு முன்னால் பல தெரிவுகள் உள்ளன. எது அவர்களுக்கு இலாபம் என்பது தீர்மானிக்கும் வசதியும் உள்ளது. எனவே இது ஏமாற்றுவதாக அமையாது, ஆனால் ஏமாறுவதாக அமையலாம்
