அவரது இயற்பெயர் உசாந்தினி , இயக்கப்பெயர் மதுநிலா, மது என எல்லோராலும் அழைக்கப்படுபவர். வயது 19. யுத்தகாலப்பகுதியில் மன்னார் ஆலம்குடா பகுதியில் இராணுவத்திடம் பிடிபட்டவரே இப்பெண் போராளி. இவருடைய தகடு இல 1023, இவர் யாழ் பண்டைத்தரிப்பை சேர்ந்தவர் ஆவார்.

இவர் கடந்தவருட யுத்தகாலப்பகுதியில் அதாவது 2009 ஜனவரி மாத இறுதியில் எதிரியிடம் சிக்குண்டவர் என்பதும் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

Usanthini was a member of Tamil Tiger combatant whose was called as Mathu with the dog tag number 1023. She was captured in the area of Mannar during a combat by the Sri Lankan armed forces.

SEND A MESSAGE TO GAP.....

After a very successful and on-going picket of GAP we are always looking at different ways of putting that company under pressure. After the further exposure of Sri Lankan war crimes leading to the President's cancelled Oxford Union speech we need to redouble our efforts in pointing out the absurdity of a so-called 'ethical' company trading with such a country.

We shall be running another Global picket later this Saturday the 11th December (see below) but we are also asking you to take part in a Global 'Message to GAP' this coming weekend the 11/12th.

We want you all to send an e-mail to various GAP outlets this coming weekend. We have a sample e-mail for you below but please feel free to amend/elaborate as you see fit.

Dear Sirs,

I am very disappointed to hear that you are trading with Sri Lanka. I am told that their Government regularly lock up critics, discriminate against their Tamil community and have even been accused of carrying out recent war crimes. I read for example that the President of Sri Lanka had a speech to the Oxford Union in the UK cancelled because of 'War Crime' allegations.

I have always regarded GAP as an 'ethical' company so I was shocked to learn that you are effectively propping up a regime that treats its' people so atrociously. I believe the EU and others have stated that the Government's behaviour falls below acceptable standards. I also worry about the workers that must be making garments for you having to live in such an environment.

I ask you to stop this trade with Sri Lanka until the EU and UN verify an acceptable improvement in that country's human rights. I am seriously considering not visiting your stores until you do.

GLOBAL GAP PICKET - 11th December (Saturday)

After the great victory in getting the Oxford Union to cancel their invitation to Rajapakse (which provoked further war crime revelations in the media) we need to keep promoting the 'Economic War'. Public opprobrium and penury for Sri Lanka is the way to go! Apart from the e-message we need to maintain our pickets by engaging with GAP's customers.

For those of you in London we urge you to join us at:

The GAP 'flagship' stores in Oxford Street, Central London (meet 50 yds to the right of Exit 7 of Oxford Circus tube) at 12.00 noon on Saturday 11th. We hope to cover both of these and the Regent Park store but we need your help even if just for an hour. We also want to see if the public are more aware of the situation in Sri Lanka following the recent protests.

We are looking for more helpers to join existing pickets or help organise new ones (http://gap.eu/stores/). Pickets can generate publicity for the cause. The local press will often print press releases. Why not take some pictures and produce a press release (we can help).
