வன்னி மக்களிற்காக கிளிமஞ்சாரோ மலை ஏறும் பிரித்தானியத் தமிழ் இளைஞன்

வன்னி மக்களிற்காக ஆபிரிக்கக் கண்டத்தில் உள்ள கிளிமஞ்சாரோ (Kilimanjaro) மலையேறி கவனயீர்ப்பில் ஈடுபடவும், நிதி சேகரிப்பில் ஈடுபடுவதற்கும் பிரித்தானியாவில் புலம்பெயர்ந்து வாழும் தமிழ் இளைஞன் ஒருவர் முன்வந்துள்ளார்.

கீரன் அரசரட்னம் என்ற குறிப்பிட்ட இளைஞன் சிறு பராயம் முதல் பிரித்தானியாவில் வாழ்ந்துவந்த போதிலும், வன்னி மக்களின் அவலம்கண்டு இந்த நடவடிக்கையில் இறங்கியிருக்கின்றார்.

5,891.8 மீற்றர் (19,330 அடி) உயரம் கொண்ட இந்த மலை ஆபிரிக்காவின் ரன்சானியா நாட்டில் உள்ளது. தற்பொழுது அங்கு சென்றுள்ள கீரன், இன்று (ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை) முதல் அதில் ஏறும் நடவடிக்கையில் ஈடுபடுகின்றார்.

இதன்மூலம் பிரித்தானியாவில் இருந்து வன்னி நோக்கிச் செல்லவுள்ள “வணங்கா மண்” கப்பலுக்கான நிதி சேகரிப்பிலும், அதே நேரம் வன்னி மக்களின் அவலத்தை வெளியுலகுக்கும் எடுத்துச் செல்ல முடியும் என கீரன் அரசரட்னம் நம்பிக்கை வெளியிட்டுள்ளார்.

20 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்னர் தனது 13 அகவையில் பிரித்தானியா சென்றிருந்த கீரன் அங்கு பட்டப்படிப்பை முடித்து தற்பொழுது வைப்பகம் ஒன்றில் துணைத் தலைவராகப் பணியாற்றி வருகின்றார்.

கீரன் 11 அகவையாக இருக்கும்போது இடம்பெயர்ந்து மன்னாரில் இருந்தபோது அவரது மூத்த சகோதரர் சிறீலஙகா படையினரால் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்பட்டிருந்தார்.

இன்போது எடுக்கப்பட்ட படமே இத்துடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. (வலது பக்கத்தில் கீரன்). படத்தில் தந்தை மற்றும் உறவினர்களுடன் காணப்படுகின்றார்.

கீரனது சகோதரன் சுட்டுக்கொல்லப்பட்டமை பற்றி அந்த நேரத்தில் பிரித்தானியாவின் ஐ.ரி.என் (ITN) தொலைக்காட்சியில் ஒளிபரப்பாகியிருந்தது.

Summary of 5 day Climb to Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 1 Arrive Moshi from London

Arrive in Moshi. Attend a pre-departure meeting with your local guide to go over last minute details of the trip.

Day 2 Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Hiking Time: 7-9 hrs

Total Distance: 15km

Starting Altitude: 1980m

Final Altitude: 2743m

Habitat: Montane forest

After breakfast and a short briefing from the guide, transfer to the gates of Kilimanjaro National Park (it is a 45-minute drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate). Upon registering with park authorities, begin the 4 hour walk to the Mandara encampment. Pass through a thick rainforest zone, where there is a high chance of rain in the afternoon. Spend the night at Mandara (2743m),

The hiking will begin early in the morning. You will hike for about 7 to 9 hours each day. Over the next two days you will continue your ascent to the saddle of Kilimanjaro.

Day 3 Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Hiking Time: 8 hrs

Total Distance: 17km

Starting Altitude: 27

Habitat: Moorland

Continue the ascent through the temperate forest zone for a short time, before reaching the heather and moorland zone at roughly 3000m.

Day 4 Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Hiking Time: 8 hrs

Total Distance: 18km

Starting Altitude: 3720m

Final Altitude: 4703m

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Continue today past the final watering point, and ascend onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mwenzi. Notice the vegetation thinning out and enter the desert-like alpine zone (approximately 4000m) and, after crossing the saddle, Kibo peak comes into view. The saddle is an alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape. This walk will be taken at a slow pace, be careful to notice signs of altitude sickness. This semi-desert zone receives an annual rainfall of under 250mm; the ground often freezes below -20 to -30 at night, but the temperature soars to above 30 degrees by day.

Day 5 Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut

Hiking Time: 14 hrs

Total Distance: 27km

Starting Altitude: 4700m

Final Altitude: 3720m (via 5895m)

Habitat: Stone Scree and ice capped summit

Shortly after midnight, commence the climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro, since it is easier to climb the scree slope to Gillman’s Point (5861m) on the crater rim when it is frozen. This early start improves the chances of reaching the summit in time for sunrise. From Gilman’s Point, it is a further 3 hour round trip along the crater’s edge to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

Day 6 Descent - Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Moshi

Hiking Time: 8 hrs

Total Distance: 27km

Starting Altitude: 3720m

Final Altitude: 1980m

Continue the descent past the Mandara encampment to the bottom of the mountain where each hiker will receive a well-earned certificate.
