The Severe Cyclonic storm ‘GAJA’ over the Central Bay of Bengal is now located approximately 325km away from Kankasanturai to the northeast of Sri Lanka, near latitude-11.3N, Longitude-82.6E at 08.30a.m. on 15 November. It is very likely to move west-southwestwards.

The system is expected to cross South Tamil Nadu coast and the center of the system is very likely to move approximately 120km away from the northern coast of Sri Lanka during today (15) evening. The system is likely to move away from the country by tomorrow (16^th). Hence windy and showery condition in the Northern part of the island and Northern sea area is expected to reduce gradually from tomorrow evening.

 

Sea water inundation may occur in the low lying areas in the near coast from Mannar to Kankasanturai.

 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times over the Northern province. Heavy falls above 100mm can be expected in the Jaffna peninsula.

Several spells of showers will occur in Anuradhapura and Puttalam districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces after 2.00.p.m.

High winds (70-80) kmph, gusting up to 100kmph can be expected over Northern province, particularly over the Jaffna peninsula.

Strong winds (50-60) kmph, gusting up to 70kmph can be expected over Puttalam and Anuradhapura districts.

Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning.
