முன்னாள் நிதி மந்திரி Jim Flaherty  தனது 64 வயதில் இன்று மரணமானார் .கடந்த மாதம் நிதி மந்திரி Jim Flaherty அமைச்சரவையில் இருந்து ராஜினாமா செய்தார்

பிரதமர் ஹாப்பரின் முழு ஆதரவு இல்லாமல் ஒரு நிதி அமைச்சராக எதையும் சாதிக்க முடிந்திராதென கூறி. தனது இந்த முடிவு தனக்கும் தனது குடும்பத்திற்கும் நன்மை பயக்கும் எனவும் தெரிவித்து அமைச்சரவையில் இருந்து ராஜினாமா செய்தார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது .

 

உலகிற்கே எடுத்துக்காட்டாக இருந்த ஒரு நிதி அமைச்சர் .உலக பொருளாதாரம் சற்று ஆடிய போதும் அசையாமல் இருந்தது கனேடிய பொருளாதாரம் .

இனி அரசியல் காணும் குடும்பத்துடன் சந்தோசமாக இருப்பம் என்று ராஜினாமா செய்து சில மாதங்கள் கூட ஆகவில்லை .

நல்லதொரு நிதி அமைச்சர். தோல் சம்பந்தமான வருத்தத்தினால் கடுமையாக அல்லல்பட்டுக் கொண்டு இருந்ததால் அண்மையில் தான் பதவி விலகினார். 2006 இல் இருந்து பதவி வகித்தவர். ஹாப்பர் பல தடவை அமைச்சர்களை மாற்றி அமைத்து இருந்தாலும் இவரது அமைச்சுப் பதவியில் மாற்றத்தினைக் கொண்டு வரவில்லை. அந்தளவுக்கு சிறந்த ஒரு நிதியமைச்சர்.

OTTAWA — The death of former finance minister Jim Flaherty is an “unexpected and terrible shock,” says Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Flaherty, a veteran of provincial and federal politics who steered the country’s economy as longtime finance minister, died Thursday afternoon.

Flaherty, who stepped aside just a few weeks ago after an eight-year run as finance minister, suffered a medical crisis at his downtown condominium in Ottawa.

Thursday afternoon, the prime minister sombrely addressed Conservative MPs in Parliament Hill committee room and paid tribute to the politician who served as his right-hand man.

“Today is a very sad day, for me, for our government and for all of country. I learned a short time ago that our colleague, my partner and my friend, Jim Flaherty has passed away suddenly today,” Harper told MPs.

 

“This comes as an unexpected and terrible shock to Jim’s family, to our caucus and to Laureen and me,” Harper said.

 

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I offer my family’s condolences and I know the condolences of the entire Parliament and government of Canada to Jim’s wife Christine and his sons Quinn, Galen and John at this tragic time,” the prime minister said.

Harper was joined by his wife Laureen, who stood at his side, wiping tears from her eyes.

 

“Jim will be sorely missed, not only by his many friends on both sides of the house, I know particularly his friends in this caucus among whom he was . . . in great respect and affection,” Harper said.

 

And Harper said that Flaherty will also be missed by the “countless thousands of Canadians” whom he served during his long time in public life.

“The days ahead will provide more suitable occasions for all of us to reflect on the legacy of Jim’s life in public service and for me to talk about the special relationship that I shared with Jim,” Harper said.

 

Harper had relied on Flaherty since 2006 to handle the finance portfolio, including the deep recession that started in 2008 that forced the Conservatives to embark on massive stimulus spending to blunt the downturn.

 

The sad news was confirmed in a statement by the family Thursday afternoon.

 

“Christine Elliott and her triplet sons, John, Galen and Quinn would like to make Canadians aware that her beloved husband and father passed away peacefully today in Ottawa,” the statement said.

 

“We appreciate that he was so well supported in his public life by Canadians from coast to coast to coast and by his international colleagues,” it said.

“The family asks for privacy at this time.”

 

The tragic news rocked Parliament Hill as the afternoon question period was suspended and MPs of all parties took turns consoling each other.

“I'm stunned and saddened by this news. A very decent, honourable man,” Tweeted NDP MP Nathan Cullen.

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair was near tears as he expressed his “profound sadness at the departure of our friend of Jim Flaherty. “ “All of his colleagues here in the House of Commons share in that loss,” Mulcair said in the Commons’ foyer.

 

“He’s a good person,” Mulcair said, describing Flaherty as a “strong, tough character.

 

“Always been devoted to Christine Elliott and his three sons. Our sincere condolences,” he said.

 

“We’re very, very sad for the loss of a great Canadian, Jim Flaherty was an extraordinarily dedicated public servant He will be greatly missed y all of us,” Mulcair said, barely able to keep his emotions in check.

 

Police and paramedics responded to the condo in the Byward Market for a medical call around 12.30 p.m. on Thursday.

 

Ottawa police spokesperson confirmed the death of unidentified male in the condo unit. The call came in as “no vital signs available.”

“It's a medical call. No foul play suspected. This is not considered a suspicious incident,” the spokesperson said.

Ottawa police officers were expected to provide an update shortly.

The Ontario Legislature also had a 20-minute recess now out of respect for Flaherty and his wife Christine Elliott, who serves as MPP, the Star’s Rob Benzie reports.

 

Elliott was at Queen’s Park Thursday morning but flew to Ottawa.

 

Flaherty had been in ill health for some time though that was not cited as a reason for when stepped aside from cabinet earlier this year. On his final day in the post, he Tweeted a picture of himself walking out his office door, hand raised in farewell.

“It has been an honour to serve Canada. Thank you for the opportunity,” Flaherty said in a Tweet.

முன்னாள் கனடிய நிதியமைச்சரும் ஓசாவாத் தொகுதிப் பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினருமான மதிப்புக்குரிய திரு. யிம் பிளேட்டி அவர்களின் திடீர் மறைவால் கனடியத் தமிழர் அதிர்ச்சியும் துயரமும் அடைந்துள்ளனர். தன் வாழ்வை நாட்டு நலனுக்காக அர்ப்பணித்தவரும் கனடாவில் நீண்ட காலமாக நிதியமைச்சராகப் பணியாற்றியவருமான திரு. யிம் பிளேட்டி அவர்களின் மறைவு கனடிய மக்களுக்குப் பேரிழப்பாகும். உலக வரலாற்றிலேயே மிகவும் கடினமான பண வீக்கமான காலப்பகுதியில் கனடியப் பொருளாதாரத்தை உயர்த்த அர்ப்பணிப்போடு உழைத்தார்.
