சிறுமி ஒருவர் மீது பாலியல் குற்றம் புரிந்தார் என்கிற வழக்கில் குற்றவாளியாக காணப்பட்டிருக்கும் இலங்கைத் தமிழருக்கு பிரிட்டனில் மூன்று வருட கடூழிய சிறைத் தண்டனை விதிக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. அத்துடன் தண்டனைக் காலம் முடிவடைந்த பிற்பாடு நாடு கடத்தப்படுவார்.

லண்டனில் உள்ள வர்த்தக நிலையம் ஒன்றில் வேலை செய்து வந்த 47 வயதான கௌரிதரன் மார்க்கண்டு என்பவரே இவ்வாறு பாலியல் குற்றம் புரிந்தவாரகும்.

குறித்த வர்த்தக நிலையத்திற்கு பால் வாங்குகின்றமைக்கு கடைக்கு வந்த சிறுமி மீதே இவர் அங்க சேட்டை புரிந்து உள்ளார்.

தான் பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தலுக்கு ஆளாவதை உணர்ந்த சிறுமி தனது கையடக்கத் தொலைபேசி மூலம் தாயாருடன் தொடர்பு கொள்கின்றமைக்கு முயன்றார். இதன் போது சிறுமியின் கையடக்கத் தொலைபேசியை மார்க்கண்டு செயல் இழக்கச் செய்துள்ளார்.

இதேவேளை, சிறுமியின் நல்ல நேரமாக வர்த்தக நிலையத்துக்கு இன்னொரு நபர் வந்ததனால் மார்க்கண்டு அங்க சேட்டையை நிறுத்திக் கொண்டார்.

உடனே கடையில் நடந்தவற்றை தாய்க்கு சிறுமி கூறினார். இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து தாய் பொலிஸில் முறையிட்டார்.

பொலிஸ் விரைந்து வந்து மார்க்கண்டை கைது செய்தனர். பின் நீதிமன்றில் நிறுத்தப்பட்ட மார்க்கண்டு தன்மீதான குற்றச்சாட்டை முதலில் நீதிமன்றில் நிராகரித்தார்.

மரபணு பரிசோதனை மூலம் இவர் குற்றம் புரிந்து இருக்கின்றமை நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டதன் பின்னர் தனது குற்றத்தை ஒப்புக் கொள்ள நேர்ந்தது.

நீதிமன்றம் இவருக்கு மூன்று வருட சிறைத் தண்டனை விதித்து தீர்ப்பளித்தது. தண்டனைக் காலம் முடிந்தவுடன் இவர் நாடு கடத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும் தீர்ப்பில் குறிப்பிட்டு உள்ளது.

மார்க்கண்டு இலங்கையில் பொலிஸாராக கடமையாற்றி இருக்கின்றார். தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளால் கொல்லப்படலாம் என்கிற அச்சத்தில் நாட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறி பிரிட்டன் வந்து அரசியல் தஞ்சம் பெற்றார்.

AN ASYLUM seeker has been jailed and is facing deportation after he carried out a sex attack on a vulnerable young girl in the shop where he worked.

Pervert Gowritharan Markandu, 47, molested the girl in a convenience store in Hartlepool.

The frightened youngster tried to call her mum for help on her mobile phone, but Markandu cancelled the phone call.

Markandu, also known by the alias Marka Dowridhar, was locked up for three years when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court.

He had denied the shocking attack until DNA evidence proved the youngster was telling the truth.

Describing the attack, Christine Egerton, prosecuting, said: “She told him she wanted to go home.

“She used her mobile phone to call her mother, but he prevented that call from actually being made by her.”

The court heard the victim had only gone into the shop for some milk.

Her ordeal came to an end when a customer walked into the shop.

The victim then told her mum what had happened and police quickly arrested Markandu.

The court was told Markandu came to Britain after fleeing Tamil Tiger militants in Sri Lanka where he had previously worked as a policeman.

Graham O’Sullivan, mitigating, said: “This was an isolated incident committed by an isolated individual.

“He is remorseful for what he has done and the distress he has caused.”

The court heard he is likely to be deported back to the country after he has served his prison sentence.

Markandu, of no fixed abode, admitted sexual assault of a child and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Judge Peter Bowers said: “This was an extremely grave and disgusting offence.

“You used a degree of coercion and then ignored her distress.

“You or I have no idea how much damage you have done to her by exposing her to such activity.

“You denied the offence until it became impossible to defend it. Thus, any credit for a guilty plea is limited.”

Markandu’s name will also be added to the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life.
